The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, has called on parents to take full responsibility for their children by giving them a proper upbringing.

Balarabe made this known while speaking at the 2020 International Women’s day celebration held on Wednesday in Rigasa Kaduna.

According to her, children’s upbringing is the responsibility of both parents, hence the need to ensure they protect their children by ensuring they do not associate with bad companies.

“Women should ensure they watch their male children closely by giving them all the necessary advice that will be of benefit to their lives and well-being.

The essence of celebrating the women’s day was to create awareness regarding an issue that has to do with women while looking at the progress that has been made in terms of social, economic and political progress as well as proffering solutions at the challenges encountered.

According to her, the state government has recognized the areas of the challenge faced by the Rigasa Community which has to do with numerous issues bordering on gender-based violence and assault.

She said the reason for choosing Rigasa was to rub minds and have an interactive section with the community because you don’t provide a solution to the people, you let the people come out and tell you what they think is the solution and layout how the problems can be handled, she said.

The Commissioner, Human Service, and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, said the reason the ministry chose Rigasa community to celebrate women day was due to its population and the kind of issue that it’s been entertaining such as rape, broken home, high rate of divorce and abandoned children.

She further solicited for complete support from the security agencies most especially the police, civil defense, and immigration.
