The chairman, senate committee on appropriation, Barau Jibrin, has said the politics in the senate is not religious, adding that he is the most qualified person to be the chairman of the National Assembly in the 10th Senate.

Barau, who said the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, should ensure that the party zones the office of the senate president to the north west, added that he is the most qualified candidate to be the next senate president.

According to Barau, David Mark was senate president, while Ike Ekweremadu, was deputy senate president, adding that at the same time in the house of representatives, Patricia Etteh, was the speaker of the house of representatives.

Speaking to Journalists at the national assembly, Barau said he is poised to give more service to his fatherland.

“I am contesting for the office of the senate president. You are my patriots. In this regard I want to tell you that I intend to seek to be the senate president of the federal republic of Nigeria. I will do a formal declaration,” Barau told members of the senate press corps.

Barau, who said he was able to win the election in Kano State not because of what he did a few days to the 2023 general elections, but that he has been doing good and representing his people very well right from dayone.

“I will be there for the country and will work for the country,” Barau disclosed of what he will do if he emerges the next senate president.

“It is about the ability to do the job. We have standing rules that govern the aspiration of the senate. You must be ranking to be senate president.

“Among those aspiring to be the senate president, I am the most experienced and most competent. We will hit the ground running from day one.

“Do you now relegate competent and ranking to other sentiments? That’s the tradition. It is not about religion. You saw what happened in 2015.

“In 2019, we voted Ahmed Lawan from the north-east because of the exigencies at the time.

“The president-elect should consider the northwest because we will want to give him more votes even than in 2023. We must do away with such sentiment. I am the best candidate for the job,” Barau added.
