With more than two decades of singing under her belt, Doris Dumah, the Nigerian singer, worshiper, and choir leader has come a long way in the industry.  On and on, you feel the impact of her years in the game via the songs she releases, even though the release has been infrequent.

“Only You Are God”, one of her latest sonic offerings has been streamed close to forty thousand times on Spotify. The spirit-filled song finds Doris Dumah giving honor and praise to God with help from a team of choristers.

The five minutes, thirty-three-second-long song begins with some soft drums, a percussion-centered production that gets brightened by a poignant piano. The instrumentals were allowed to breathe through the song before Doris Dumah’s vocals came through.

“From the beginning to the end, you are still the same,” is the first line of the song. This is followed by words exhorting the mightiness of God. By the time the song reaches the ninety-second mark, the bright vocals of choristers come up. They started by lending credence to what Doris sang, at some point, it changed to repeating her words.

“Only You Are God,” is a multi-language type of song. Doris Dumah sings in English, Pidgin English, and Igbo Language. It’s a lofty attempt to appeal to different demography and truly, it appears the purposes these were explored got fulfilled.

Slowly, you get eased into a worshiping mood via this song. The beginning of the song sets things in motion, the midpoint is funkier, and the tide tends to continue until the final vocal and instrumental. The song is beautifully rendered, expertly arranged, and sung. At the end of each spin, you get to play the song again, savor the music. Doris Dumah is meticulous with her execution. The years of honing her talent on the microphone are truly not a fluke.

Doris Dumah’s impressive and energy-filled stage performances have seen her share the stage with the likes of America-born veteran singer Don Moen, popular Nigeria-based music band, Midnight Crew, Sinach, Gospel Star, Nathaniel Bassey, veteran singer Chioma Jesus just to mention a few.

For over a decade, Doris Dumah led the Choir of her Church, RCCG, Tabernacle of David, Lagos State, Nigeria. Her song, “Arugbo Ojo” was nominated twice for the Nigeria Gospel Music Award
