The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding United Nigeria flight NUA 0506 to Asaba, particularly the confusion it has sparked among the public. This development was disclosed in a statement released by Capt. Musa Nuhu, the Director-General of NCAA, on Monday in Abuja.

The statement acknowledged that preliminary actions have been taken, with the assurance that the ongoing investigation will be thorough. Capt. Musa Nuhu emphasized the commitment of the authority to leave no stone unturned, reiterating their dedication to ensuring the continuous safety of the aviation industry.

Simultaneously, Mr. Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, Head of Corporate Communications at United Nigeria Airlines, provided additional context in a separate statement. According to Uchegbu, the flight, originating from Lagos and heading to Abuja on Sunday, experienced a temporary diversion to the Asaba International Airport in Delta due to adverse weather conditions at the intended destination.

He clarified that the pilots were fully aware of the temporary diversion and had briefed the passengers accordingly. However, he acknowledged that confusion arose among passengers due to a miscommunication made by the cabin crew upon landing in Asaba. Despite this, Uchegbu reassured the public that the aircraft landed safely in Abuja after weather conditions improved.
