Aviation Sector Faces High Tariffs, Urgent Need for Technology Adoption, Says Expert

Former president of the Aviation Round Table Initiative, Dr. Gabriel Olowo, has raised concerns about high tariffs in Africa’s aviation sector. Speaking at the Sabre Technology Expo in Lagos, Olowo highlighted the lack of an enabling environment for the sector’s companies and urged African players to embrace technology for enhanced competition.

 

Olowo emphasized the significance of technology, citing the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) push for e-ticketing in 2004.

He urged travel experts to adopt Sabre technology, a leading company in hospitality, road, air, and maritime services, for effective competition.

 

Minister of aviation and aerospace development, Festus Keyamo, represented by his personal assistant Janet Oputa, called on African countries to harness emerging technologies for aviation industry growth. Keyamo highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to progress, anticipating smart airports equipped with artificial intelligence in the coming years.
