The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), a World Bank funded intervention, has identified about 1003 junior and senior secondary schools for renovation in Bauchi State.

NATIONAL ECONOMY reports that AGILE seeks to improve access to quality education for girls in about 18 states of the federation.

Bauchi AGILE Project Coordinator, Ali Sule Gar, disclosed this during a sensitisation organised for members of School Based Management Committees (SBMC) in Bauchi.

He said the SBMCs will be directly responsible for spearheading the renovation of their respective schools. “It is your project. You own it,” he said.

The coordinator explained that funds meant for the renovation project will be made available to all SBMCs through a dedicated bank account.

“The account will be closely monitored to ensure transparency and accountability in both the application and administration of the funds,” he emphasised.

Mr Gar said the objective of the renovation is to provide a conducive teaching and learning atmosphere to encourage school enrollment and retention.

Deputy speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Jamilu Umaru Dahiru assured that lawmakers will closely monitor the renovation exercise as parts of their oversight function.

He warned that anyone found embezzling funds meant for the project will be sanctioned accordingly to deter others.
