Recognising Employees On Workers’ Day

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Telegram

Workers Day is an important occasion on the corporate calendar, dedicated to recognising and celebrating the hard work and dedication of employees.

It offers organisations the chance to express their gratitude and appreciation to their valuable staff for their contributions.

International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day in some countries and often referred to as May Day, is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labour movement and occurs every year on May 1.

Minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, when declaring May 1, as a public holiday to celebrate Workers’ Day this year, reiterated the need for excellence, efficiency and equity in all spheres of labour, reaffirming President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation, productivity, and inclusivity in the workplace.

“In alignment with this year’s theme, which focuses on ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate, I wish to state that the federal government remains steadfast in its resolve to prioritise the safety and well-being of all citizens.

“Let me reaffirm Mr. President’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for work, where every worker can thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he said.

While recognising the contributions of workers, he urged the adoption of proactive strategies to counter the negative impacts of climate change through collaborative efforts in enforcing sustainable practices and policies.

According to him, these measures aim to enhance well-being in the workplace and foster a nation committed to integrity, diligence, and compassion.

Ways To Celebrate Employee On Workers’ Day

Fortunately, there are a myriad of ways to show appreciation to your employees on Workers Day. From a simple, heartfelt handwritten note.

Provide a Meaningful Gift: Consider giving personalised gifts or awards that reflect your employees’ achievements and contributions. Personal touches go a long way in showing your appreciation. You can use a digital recognition and rewards platform like Inspirus.

Take the Day Off;

Allow your employees to take a day off with pay to relax, recharge, and spend quality time with their loved ones.

Cater Lunch for Employees: Organise a catered lunch with food trucks or provide gift cards to your employees’ favorite restaurants or food delivery apps, giving your team a chance to enjoy a delicious meal together.

Send a Special Message from Management: A heartfelt message from top management expressing gratitude and highlighting individual and team accomplishments can be very meaningful.

Host a Happy Hour: Use Workers Day to encourage team bonding and strengthen employee relationships. Host a virtual or in-person happy hour where employees can unwind and socialise with colleagues and supervisors.

Let Employees Volunteer: Looking for a way to give back to your community? Allow your team to volunteer for a cause they care about during work hours, promoting a sense of giving back.

Organise Team Building Activities; Make Employee Worker Day fun for your staff by organising a few team-building activities. Plan activities or workshops that encourage collaboration, communication, and team bonding.

Provide Gift Packages; Create personalised gift packages tailored to individual preferences or needs. Such packages could include self-care items, company swag, and a water bottle.

Donate to a Charity on Their Behalf: Show appreciation by making a meaningful impact. Select a range of charities and allow employees to choose where a donation will be made in their name. This not only acknowledges your employees but also supports causes they care about, reinforcing a sense of purpose and community involvement.

Overall, Workers’ Day is an opportunity to make staff feel valued for their contributions to your company’s success. Organisations do not need to wait until Employee Day to start recognising the employees. There are many smart and effective ways to reward and appreciate people all year long.
