Software development expert, Eugene Osafile was one of the keynote speakers at the recently concluded conference of the Eastwing Aviation Training Centre in Enugu, Nigeria, held from April 7th to 9th, 2022.

Speaking at the event, Eugene emphasized the critical role that digital technology plays in the modernization and advancement of the aviation sector.

According to him, aviation, once the epitome of human achievement, continues to evolve with each passing day. He said that currently, the country stands at the brink of a technological revolution poised to redefine how we fly, operate, and maintain aircraft. Software, in particular, has become the backbone of aviation innovation.

He mentioned that one of the most exciting developments in recent years is the emergence of artificial intelligence and machine learning in aviation. Stating that these technologies enable us to analyze huge amounts of data from various sources in real time, predict maintenance issues before they occur, and even optimize flight routes for maximum efficiency.

Additionally, Eugene said that the Internet of Things (IoT) is changing how planes are monitored and kept safe. He said that small gadgets put in the plane send important information to one main system. This, he said, helps in fixing problems before they happen and prevents unexpected stops from occurring. He said, “As we harness the power of technology to propel aviation into the future, we must remain vigilant about cybersecurity. The interconnected nature of modern aircraft leaves them vulnerable to cyber threats, and it is incumbent upon us to safeguard against potential risks. As software developers, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to shape the future of aviation. By collaborating with industry stakeholders, regulators, and fellow technologists, we can ensure that the innovations we create are not only cutting-edge but also safe, reliable, and secure.”

As excited as he was about the interesting role that technology could play in the aviation space, he was quick to mention that AI is relatively a developing technology and its use in airworthiness management comes with some reliability issues, as well as data privacy and security concerns.

He expressed his excitement and optimism for the future of aviation. Eugene Osafile concluded his presentation by saying. “The possibilities are endless, and technology has the power to transform the way we fly and experience the world.”
