The launch was announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during the induction ceremony of 123 newly- trained immigration officers at the NIS Command and Control Centre.
Tunji-Ojo emphasised the importance of the initiative, noting that it strengthens the country’s border governance and monitoring capabilities.
“With this development, we now join an elite group of nations whose immigration officers can conduct 24/7 real-time surveillance,” the minister stated. He added that the system’s completion, alongside the rigorous training of new officers, represents a significant achievement for the NIS.
The minister highlighted that the surveillance system aligns with the government’s broader strategy of using innovative solutions to boost national security. The deployment of this advanced technology will not only enhance Nigeria’s border security but also facilitate stronger international partnerships.
“This technology enables seamless collaboration with international security bodies such as Interpol,” Tunji-Ojo explained, underscoring the global integration capabilities that the system provides.
The federal government has prioritised enhanced border security to combat illegal activities and improve cross-border management. As part of these efforts, the NIS has deployed surveillance cameras to support real-time monitoring across various border points.
Minister Tunji-Ojo expressed optimism about the agency’s achievements. “I am proud of what the Nigerian Immigration Service has accomplished so far and look forward to more successes from all agencies under the Ministry of Interior,” he said.
