The Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, will culminate in the endorsement of the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a comprehensive roadmap to achieve universal energy access across Africa by 2030.
President Bola Tinubu, accompanied by top officials, including Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Minister of Power Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, is representing Nigeria at the two-day event. The summit, hosted by Tanzania in collaboration with the African Union, African Development Bank (AfDB), and World Bank Group, features over 1,000 participants.
On the first day, participating nations will present their national energy strategies, detailing steps toward achieving universal energy access. On the second day, African heads of state will formally adopt the energy declaration.
President Tinubu will reaffirm Nigeria’s leadership in Africa’s energy sector, highlighting clean energy initiatives and integrated energy delivery strategies.
The Mission 300 initiative, launched by the World Bank Group and AfDB in 2024, aims to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030. AfDB’s Daniel Schroth stressed the urgency of implementation, while the World Bank’s Franz Drees-Gross described the initiative as a transformative movement to bridge the continent’s energy gap.
Key commitments include reforms in power generation, regional energy integration, private sector investment, and utility strengthening. Supporting this, the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet and The Rockefeller Foundation have pledged $10 million to accelerate energy projects across 11 African nations.
The summit seeks to mobilise resources, encourage cross-border energy trade, and foster collaboration to power Africa’s sustainable growth.
