ASCON To Transform Centre Into Hub Of Tourism-induced Destination

To bring back the glorious days of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), the newly- appointed director-general, Mrs Funke Femi Adepoju, has harped on creating global partnerships for the fifty-three year old institution.

She spoke at a three-day retreat for senior managers and mid-level managers of ASCON at the centre located in Topo, Badagry in Lagos, adding that, she would explore the tourism potentials of the edifice in attracting revenue and upscaling the training and hospitality areas of ASCON.
The retreat, held last week, afforded scores of participants to glean on the wealth of knowledge of the facilitators and to develop ideas and a change of mindset on how to further re-position the college (ASCON) in tandem with best global practices.
The director- general stated that she wants to attract the institution to global partnerships like the Harvard Training School, Stanford School and also seek ways on how the Pan-African Lagos Business School can partner with ASCON on mutual benefits. Other areas Mrs Adepoju wants to improve upon is to review the curriculum of the courses in tandem with global practices, and also revamp the iconic facilities to make it a tourist hub.

“ASCON is a heritage and what my management intend to to do is bring back the glory of the school and make it a pride of place for public officials and the corporate world to come and have their training. In doing this, getting global partnerships for ASCON is key and there are several global institutions that ASCON can partner with to improve its relevance.

“The public should know that the fifty-three year old edifice is still in operation as we had custom officialls train here few weeks ago and we are still expecting another set of public officials in the next few weeks so it’s still in operation. What we want to do is to improve upon our curriculum and make it comform with best practices,” said the DG.

The three-day retreat for senior managers and mid-level managers of ASCON was a success as facilitators like Mrs Titilope Ojo , Dr James Komolafe, Anita Paxon and Melody Lenox, exposed the officials to the opportunities in transitioning ASCON via rebranding and focussing on the core values of the institution.
