NIMC Restricts NIN Portal Access To Registered Devices

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued new security guidelines restricting access to its NIN self-service modification portal strictly to the browser and device used during initial account registration.

The policy, announced in a statement signed by NIMC’s head of corporate communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, is part of a broader strategy to enhance data security and block unauthorised access.

“Your self-service account is uniquely tied to the browser and device used during registration. Access to your account is therefore limited to that specific browser on that particular device,”the Commission stated.

Users have been cautioned against clearing their browser cache, as it could reset credentials and trigger lockouts. Once locked, users are allowed a maximum of five unlock attempts before requiring a formal unlinking process.

The new directive follows an earlier announcement in October 2024 that all NIN data modification requests must be processed exclusively through the online portal. Manual updates at enrolment centres have since been discontinued.
