LG Electronics has commissioned a solar-powered borehole system and a mobile laundry cabin in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to provide residents free access to clean water and laundry services.

Speaking at the commissioning, Choongbae Seok, the general manager of Media Solutions, TV Division, LG Electronics West Africa, said the project aimed to combine innovation with social impact. “Beyond providing water and laundry services, this project embodies dignity, well-being, and hope. By combining renewable energy with community service, we are setting a new benchmark for social impact projects in Ogun State,” he said.

The Commissioner for Housing in Ogun State, Hon. Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Housing, Mr. Kolawole Agemo, commended the initiative. He noted that the project demonstrated how private sector partnerships could drive sustainable development across the state.

Community leaders also lauded the effort.

The Chairman of Ikija Community Development Association, Mr. Oladipupo Taofeek, described the initiative as a “game-changer,” noting that it would address long-standing challenges of access to clean water and basic laundry facilities.

The project, launched under the company’s Life’s Good Initiative, is designed to improve daily living conditions and promote hygiene in the community. The borehole, powered by renewable energy, ensures 24-hour access to potable water. At the same time, the mobile laundry cabin, equipped with energy-efficient washing machines and dryers, operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The solar-powered borehole features advanced filtration technology to ensure safe drinking water, while the laundry cabin allows multiple users to access services simultaneously.

LG Electronics said the project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 on good health and well-being. The company pledged to expand similar initiatives across Nigeria in collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders.

The inauguration was attended by community leaders, government officials, and residents who welcomed the project as a step toward improved living standards in Abeokuta.
