Air Peace has commenced a direct service from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to London Heathrow, marking a significant expansion in Nigeria’s international aviation footprint.
The inaugural flight departed on Sunday with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and other distinguished passengers on board.
The development follows Nigeria’s push for fair reciprocity under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement with the United Kingdom, securing landing rights for a local carrier at Heathrow.
Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, described the milestone as a win for Nigerian aviation and called for continued support for indigenous airlines to compete globally.
The Aviation Minister said the launch reflects government’s commitment to reducing the high mortality rate among local carriers and boosting private-sector capacity in the international market.
He noted that the Abuja–London route will enhance connectivity, create jobs and expand economic opportunities for Nigerian operators seeking access to strategic global corridors.
