The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has partnered with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to reduce road traffic accidents in Plateau State.
Mrs Bintu Aliyu, Head of Operations, NEMA Jos, said the collaboration is aimed at strengthening accident prevention strategies, improving emergency response, and promoting safer driving practices among commercial drivers. She spoke at the flag-off of the 2025 Operation Eagle Eye in Jos.
Aliyu stressed the importance of sustained public enlightenment, strict compliance with traffic regulations and improved inter-agency coordination, noting that effective disaster risk reduction requires collective action by government agencies, transport unions and road users.
FRSC Bukuru Unit Command, through its Head of Operations, Mr Felix Bedung, commended NEMA for the initiative, highlighting driver education, vehicle roadworthiness and speed limit enforcement as critical to road safety. He said collaboration with NURTW would help take safety messages directly to drivers at motor parks.
Also speaking, Mr Gideon Samuel, Organising Secretary of NURTW Mini Bus Branch, Maraban Jama’a, pledged the union’s full cooperation, assuring that members would be sensitised on road safety, emergency preparedness and responsible driving.
