Abuja Electricity Distribution Restores Power To FCT Water Board

Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc. (AEDC) has reconnected electricity supply to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Water Board following public outcry over disruptions to water supply in parts of Abuja.
The company said the earlier disconnection was due to the accumulation of over one year of unpaid electricity bills by the FCT Water Board, despite repeated notices, engagements and opportunities to regularise the account in line with regulatory provisions.
In a statement signed by the head, Brand Marketing & Corporate Communications, AEDC, Omede Odekina, the company said the acting managing director/chief executive officer, Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye, approved the immediate reconnection in view of the critical importance of water supply to public health and community wellbeing.
According to the company, the decision was taken after concerns and appeals from residents of the FCT, with the aim of enabling the prompt restoration of water services across affected areas.
However, AEDC said the reconnection was granted on a conditional basis. The FCT Water Board has been issued a two-week deadline to present and begin implementing a credible payment plan towards settling its outstanding electricity debt.
The company warned that failure to meet the obligation within the stipulated period would leave it with no option but to reapply service disconnection, in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
