The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Akwa Ibom Directorate, has kicked-started a sensitisation programmme to promote mass awareness on critical national issues.
Speaking at the event in Uyo, the director-general, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the programme focused on five key issues.
“The campaign focuses on value re-orientation against extreme practices, flood mitigation, security awareness, promotion of government policies, and restoration of national symbols,” he said.
Represented by the director, Community Safety, Awareness and Compliance, Mrs Tessy Nnalue, the D-G frowned against ‘signing-out’ ceremonies being held by students after their final examination.
He said that the practice was contrary to every known culture of decency, and should be discouraged.
The NOA helmsman said residents of flood-prone communities should exude environment-friendly attitudes in order to avoid flooding.
“We are urged to heed the advisories from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency in order to prevent devastating floods.
“Poor drainage system and careless dumping of waste in drainage systems often result in flooding,” he said.
He also urged youths to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the National Youth Investment Fund to access funds for their education.

“These schemes are intended to support every qualified Nigerian to access funds for tertiary education.

“Already about 150,000 youths across the country have been supported with over N110 billion,” he said.
