In a night of recognition and celebration, Aliko Dangote, the prominent African entrepreneur and philanthropist, was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA). The Organised Private Sector employers in the country applauded Dangote for his remarkable contributions to both business and society.
The accolade was presented during the 2022 Employers Annual Excellence Award held in Lagos, where the Dangote Group clinched the ‘Resilience and Sustainable Growth’ category. Notably, Dangote Cement Plc, a subsidiary of the conglomerate, was honored as the “Best Company in the Chemical and Non-Metallic Products Sector.”
Former chairman of Nestle Nigeria Plc, Chief Olusegun Osunkeye, also received special recognition and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the event.
Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, former president of NECA, bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award upon Aliko Dangote, acknowledging Dangote’s name as one that “looms larger than life for his exemplary works.”
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Dangote team, Mr. Devakumar Edwin, Group Executive Director of Strategy, Portfolio Development & Capital Projects at Dangote, commended NECA for promoting leadership, good governance, innovation, productivity, and corporate performance.
NECA president, Mr. Taiwo Adeniyi, highlighted the significance of the awards, emphasizing the recognition of organizations that persevered against challenges in Nigeria’s business environment. The theme for this year’s event, ‘Against All Odds,’ underscored the resilience of businesses facing adversities.
Minister of labour and employment, Simon Lalong, congratulated NECA for organizing the event and acknowledged the resilience of private sector employers in Nigeria. Other notable winners included Nigeria Bottling Company, MTN, TGI Group, Nestle, Julius Berger, and NLNG.
