Delta State’s athletes who participated in the Asaba 2022 National Sports Festival have started receiving the long-awaited cash rewards.
Delta State finished as champions of the Asaba 2022 National Sports Festival, and this gesture reinforces the state’s position as a leading light in Nigerian sports.
The State Sports Commission chairman, Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, described the payment as a demonstration of Governor Oborevwori’s unwavering support for sports development in the state and the fulfillment of the pledge made by the state government.
He noted that the gesture reflected the governor’s “MORE Agenda,” which prioritised meaningful development, opportunities for all, and enhanced welfare for the people of Delta State, including athletes.
He lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for redeeming the outstanding financial commitment and described it as timely and promise fulfilled.
“This payment is a clear testimony of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s love for sports and his determination to ensure athletes are well cared for,” he stated.

“Our sports men and women can now attest to the fact that this administration is committed to their welfare and future.”

He further reassured athletes that better days lie ahead under the leadership of Governor Oborevwori, whose plans for sports development include improved facilities, training opportunities and timely incentives for outstanding performances.

The Director of Public Relations, Delta State Sports Commission, Asaba, Mrs. Franka Okonma says the payment, came as a major morale booster.

The athletes, many of whom had waited patiently for the fulfillment of the promise, have expressed gratitude to the governor for honoring his word and motivating them for future competitions.
