Four major aviation unions have suspended a planned strike at the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) after securing assurances that a revised salary structure will be implemented alongside August salaries.
The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUCPTRE) confirmed the decision in a joint memo to staff on Friday.
They cited “positive developments,” including a “no objection” letter from the Budget Office to the National Incomes, Salaries and Wages Commission, and NAMA management’s communication expressing confidence in paying the new rates this month.
“Based on the above, and in order to demonstrate good faith, our unions have taken the decision to defer the strike action scheduled to commence on Monday, 11th August, 2025, pending the state of affairs on the subject matter at the end of August, 2025,” the memo stated.
Minister of aviation and aerospace development Festus Keyamo, welcomed the suspension, attributing it to government mediation. He expressed confidence that the administration’s ongoing engagement with unions would resolve long-standing issues in the sector.
