In a development that has averted a potential aviation crisis, the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) announced the suspension of their scheduled strike on August 16. This decision came after regulatory authorities, notably the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), intervened in the ongoing dispute.
In an official statement released by Mr. Ocheme Oba, the General Secretary of NUATE, on Wednesday, it was revealed that the union had initially informed the NCAA about their intent to proceed with an industrial strike. This move was prompted by a series of unresolved grievances concerning the conditions of aviation workers.
Upon receiving the strike notice, the NCAA took a proactive step by engaging with the union. According to Oba, the NCAA requested a week to thoroughly deliberate on the workers’ demands. This intervention played a pivotal role in the subsequent suspension of the strike action.
