Building good working relationships is crucial to succeeding. Better working relationships lead to better teamwork and will help them to be happier, more engaged, and more productive. They are the foundation on which a Company succeed.

Building effective workplace relationships is an extremely important skill for any employee and a healthy work relationship with employees creates a positive work environment and helps grow an organisation.

According to Jobber man, no one can achieve success alone. People are considered resources for a reason and are usually determinants of success or failure. This is why it is important to know how to get the best from your relationships, especially the ones in the workplace.

The managing director of Lancelot Ventures Limited, Mr Adebayo Adeleke, noted that a happy workplace environment not only does help your employees to do their best within the company, but also helps to attract good talented people to the organisation.

He said employees who feel happiness at work tend to be more creative, innovative as well as dedicated towards their work and company than their counterparts.

He explained that “while more money can help put a smile on your employees’ faces, it’s not the only way to keep them cheerful. Boosting work-life balance, being transparent, offering cool benefits and saying ‘thank you’ more often all help boost employee morale.”

Building Good Relationship In Workplace

Respect Other People’s Time

Do not take too much of people’s time. Before engaging your colleagues, let them know how long it will take, and keep to the time stated. Always ask for their consent.

Respect Other People’s Space

People hold their work space sacred. If you are in their space, do not touch stuff and if you do, put them back properly. Always give enough personal space, when you are talking with someone.

Always Mention Their Names Correctly

People generally love anyone that makes an effort to know their names, remember it always, and pronounce it correctly. To be on your colleague’s top list. Get their names right always.

Always wear a smile while talking: A smile always diffuses tension. Your kind smile can ease stress for someone.

Listen Carefully

A good listener will be the most sought after. Do not be hasty to make your opinions felt. Simply paying attention to someone will take you a notch higher.

Show Concern

Find time to get to know your colleagues’ concerns. Not in a busy-body way though. Trust has to be built before people can open up to you.

Avoid Arguments

Never strive to win the fight. You will surely lose the relationship. The euphoria from winning the fight, soon fades, but the bond from winning a relationship lasts more.

Do Not Involve Yourself In Office Politics And Gossip

This has a way of coming back to haunt you. You lose credence and trust when you involve yourself in such petty stuff.

Do Not Impose Your Religious Views Or Beliefs On Your Colleagues

That is a no-go area. You lose friends when you do so.

Use Word Like Thank You And Please

Courtesy stands you out always. Communicate in short, simple to understand sentences: Effective communication is key to successful relationship building.

Moreover, a positive and happy workplace environment leads to more success in long term as it increases positive emotions and well-being. As the employees are able to develop better relationships with each other and come out of stresses easily, they are able to boost their abilities and creativity, bringing out the best for their teams. And finally, when the organisation is filled with employees who are happy, positive and loyal higher, level of organisational effectiveness is achieved.
