Chamber Of Shipping Appoints Coordinator For North, Abuja District

The Nigerian Chamber of Shipping has  announced the appointment of Alhaji Sulaiman Adama, as the chamber’s co-ordinator for the northern states and Abuja.

In a press statement signed by the director, Operations and Administration, Vivian Chimezie-Azubuike, said Adama has an extensive professional background in the Nigerian maritime and shipping industry.

According to her, Adama held various positions during his service years at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), saying he was at different times Head, Wet/Dry Cargo units, Corporate Planning and Research Units, Shipping Policy Development, Ship Intelligence and Consultancy Services of the agency.

She said, “He was port services controller at the leading eastern port in Nigeria, the Port Harcourt Port, overseeing shipping activities in Port Harcourt, Bonny Island, Okrika, Brass and numerous Jetties.”

“He is a recipient of NIMASA director general’s Letter of Commendation for his contributions to Policy Formulation and Development in the areas of Inter-Agency Cooperation (NIMASA/NAF), Removal of Wrecks and Derelicts from our water ways, the Draft Cabotage Bill and the Compendium of NIMASA seminar papers amongst others.

“He is also a recipient of the Honourable Minister of Finance of Nigeria’s Letter of Appreciation for Entrepreneurship Mentoring of Nigerian youths.

“Adama’s shipping background and excellent business development skills would help the Chamber’s presence and visibility in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja and the northern states. We believe his strong communication experience will also help the Chamber develop strategic alliances with critical stakeholders in government and the private sector.”

“Adama was trained at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, New York, the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the great Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife amongst several management training institutions in Nigeria and overseas.”

“He is a Member of the International Multi-Modal Transport Association, Geneva, Member, United Nations Committee on Trade Facilitation, Geneva, Federal Government of Nigeria appointed Mentor of the YouWin Program, a Co-Founder of the Blue Economy Resources Nigeria Coordination Group and a Fellow, Institute of Mentoring and Career Coaching.”
