The Nigerian Agro Allied Farmers Association has hailed the appointment of Mr Yazid Danfulani as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation.
The group described the appointment as a turning point for agricultural risk management in Nigeria.
Its National Chairman, Dr Chukwudi Isaac, in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, said the decision by the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Agenda was timely and strategic.
According to him, the move reflects the country’s determination to boost food production, protect farmers’ livelihoods and strengthen food security amid economic and environmental challenges.
He said, “For decades, NAIC has stood as a pillar of resilience, mandated to implement the Agricultural Insurance Scheme, subsidise premiums, protect farmers from natural hazards, and encourage lenders to provide more credit through guarantees.”
Isaac noted that Danfulani’s vision to digitise claims, monitor weather patterns in real time, and deepen partnerships with technology startups and private insurers would reposition NAIC as a modern, technology-driven institution.
He added that the plan to integrate smallholder farmers and use insurance as a tool for peacebuilding between farmers and herders was both “visionary and pragmatic.”
The association urged stakeholders to give Danfulani the support needed to transform NAIC into an institution that secures farmers and strengthens national food systems.
