In a monumental leap for Nigeria’s energy landscape, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has officially initiated the production of diesel and aviation fuel.
President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, expressed profound gratitude to key stakeholders, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for invaluable support, encouragement, and insightful guidance throughout the realization of this groundbreaking project.
Dangote extended appreciation to essential entities such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), acknowledging their pivotal role in the project’s success.
He also expressed gratitude to the Nigerian public for their unwavering belief and support in this transformative endeavor.
“We thank President Bola Tinubu for his support and for making our dream come true. This production, as witnessed today, would not have been possible without his visionary leadership and prompt attention to detail. His intervention at various stages cleared all impediments, thereby accelerating the actualization of the project. We also thank the NNPC, NUPRC, and NMDPRA for their support. These organizations have been our dependable partners in this historic journey. We also thank Nigerians for their belief and support in this project.”
The refinery, having received six million barrels of crude oil at its strategically positioned Single Point Moorings (SPMs) located 25 kilometers offshore, celebrated significant progress.
The first crude delivery occurred on December 12, 2023, with subsequent deliveries culminating in the sixth cargo on January 8, 2024.
Highlighting operational capabilities, the refinery boasts the capacity to load 2,900 trucks daily at its truck-loading gantries, with products adhering to Euro V specifications. The design aligns with global emission norms, employing state-of-the-art technology endorsed by the World Bank, US EPA, European standards, and Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) emission/effluent norms.
Expressing gratitude to financiers and bankers for their patience, Dangote acknowledged the proactive efforts of the Lagos State Government, led by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in swiftly resolving challenges encountered during the project’s execution.
He also thanked host communities and their traditional leaders for their collaboration, patience, and willingness to find mutually beneficial resolutions.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of the project team, President Dangote concluded, “Our staff have also contributed immensely to the success of this project. I thank them profusely.”
