Nigeria’s power distribution companies (DisCos) billed electricity consumers ₦257.57 billion in April 2025 but recovered only ₦199.85 billion, according to data released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The figures, published in the commission’s April 2025 DisCos Commercial Performance Fact Sheet, show a revenue collection efficiency of 77.59 per cent—an improvement over the 71.07 per cent recorded in March.
Although revenue collection rose by 5.81 per cent from the ₦188.89 billion realised in March, total customer billing fell by 3.09 percent compared to ₦265.77 billion in the previous month.
The fact sheet also showed a decrease in energy supply. DisCos received a total of 2,622.46 gigawatt-hours (GWh) from the national grid in April, a 9.16 percent drop from the 2,886.72 GWh received in March. Of this, 2,184.61 GWh was billed to customers—down 5.76 percent from 2,318.12 GWh in the preceding month.
According to the commission, the average allowed tariff across all DisCos in April was ₦116.25 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), while the average actual revenue collected stood at ₦90.55/kWh.
Earlier, on July 3, NERC reported that DisCos collected ₦553.63 billion in total revenue in the first quarter of 2025, out of a total billing of ₦744.27 billion across the country.
