Four electricity distribution companies have announced a tariff increase for Band A customers, raising rates from N206.80 to N209.5 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). Effective July 1, 2024, this adjustment applies to both prepaid and postpaid customers.
Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna DisCo) reassured Band A customers of continued 20-24 hours of daily electricity supply, adhering to the service-based tariff regime. They confirmed that tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged.
Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (Port Harcourt DisCo) also affirmed a minimum of 20 hours daily electricity availability for Band A customers, with no tariff changes for other bands.
Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) Plc stated that while tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E remain stable, their focus remains on maintaining efficient service delivery across all customer segments.
Ikeja Electric justified the tariff adjustment, aligning it with the service-based tariff regime starting July 1, 2024. They emphasized that tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E will remain unaffected, underscoring their commitment to enhancing service standards across their network.
Previously, on May 6, 2024, DisCos had reduced Band A tariffs to N206.80/kWh. This followed an earlier Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approval on April 3, 2024, increasing tariffs for Band A customers from N66 to N225 per kWh. Band A customers continue to receive a guaranteed 20 hours of electricity supply daily.
The DisCos said the tariff adjustment reflects ongoing efforts by them to manage operational costs while ensuring sustainable electricity service delivery amidst regulatory changes and market dynamics.
