Energized and motivated employees are of key importance to keeping workplace productive and exceptional performance. As an employer, it is necessary to develop a technique, which will create an environment where employees are motivated to grow and succeed in their fields. What are employees’ motivation techniques? Going further, we will breakdown the meaning of motivation techniques.

Motivation techniques can be referred to as an internal or external influence that contribute to productivity and satisfaction at work. Employees need to feel excited to work harder or believe in their value to the company, therefore, motivational tools can help to encourage and inspire them.

There are several reasons why employees’ motivation is very important, most especially because it allows management to meet the company’s goals. Without a motivated workplace, companies could be placed in a very risky position.

Motivated employees can lead to increased productivity and allow an organisation to achieve higher levels of output. Imagine having employees who lack motivation at work, they could probably use the time at their desk looking for another job or even surfing the internet for personal pleasure or even looking for another job which
then results to a waste of your time and resources.

Motivation can be said to be the foundation of management. It is of key importance that every manager tries to create the zeal to work among employees and consequently motivate them. Motivation serves as an effective instrument that inspires the work force to achieve organisational goals. However, although employees may be greatly capable of performing some work, nothing can be achieved if there is lack of willingness. In simple terms, motivation can be referred to as the creation of a will to work. It is effective and successful not only in having an order or instruction accepted but also in gaining a determination to ensure that it is accomplished efficiently and
effectively.

Organisations need to access and then create the needs the employees aspire, which could include, increase in wages/salaries, promotions, recognitions etc. Take for instance in both the public and private sectors many experiences have shown that most Nigerian workers have been frustrated out of their jobs due to dissatisfaction with their jobs or lack of good training policies or even absence of incentives which then leads to low morale in working behaviour.

The keys to the viability, survival and growth of an organisation in the public and private sector is the effective acquisition, utilisation and maintenance of the organisation’s most valued asset – human resources. No matter how vast the financial and materials resources may be, a human element will have to put them together and
make them useful in order to accomplish the set goals and objectives.

The extent to which an organisation can adopt, maintain itself, survive and grow in the face of changing conditions depends largely on how effective and efficient the human resource can be managed and utilised.

It is important to note that, an organisation cannot survive without human resources, therefore the role of employees cannot be overemphasized. The human resource which serves as the life wire of an organisation, is the only resource blessed with the capabilities of thinking, planning, executing and achieving organisational goals.

Furthermore, with all of these major roles played by human resource in an organisation, it reveals how much their motivation should be given top priority.

The expectation of every management in an organization is for employee to put in their best to achieve the goals of that organization. This is the reason why management practitioners and most people tend to pay
attention to motivation to boost employee morale at work.

One of the main problems that usually confronted by the management is how to motivate workers to perform the assigned task and duties, so that the predetermined goals and objectives can be achieved. Many organizations just focus on the high returns on investment and neglect their workers.

Furthermore, most workers and management of organisations seemotivation as just the addition to the take home of the workers, or promotion to another level in the organisation. They fail to realise that incentives, promotion and so on are what surrounds a job and it cannot lead to job satisfaction. That is the more reason why most organisations that believe in this concept are still finding it difficult to satisfy their workers in the long run.

Moreover, the fact cannot be eluded that most organisations see motivation of workers as unnecessary or a waste of resources that will yield a lot of profit if applied in other factors of production of the organisation.

It is important for any organisation to constantly work towards discovering different ways or techniques that help to motivate employees in order to improve performance, productivity and quality, which will reflect on the overall performance of the company and therefore maintain competitive advantage in the market. In terms of employees motivation some of the techniques an organisation can apply include; asking for employees input, validating good works, celebrating milestones and achievement, offering personal growth programmes, setting intermittent goals, creating mentorship programmes, creating a workspace that is comfortable and inspiring as well, offering incentive programme, practicing mindfulness and sharing profits so as to improve performances.

In conclusion, one of the basic elements of a company is a positive workplace. It is true it seems difficult sometimes to keep up with encouraging or motivating employees at the workplace, however, it is also important to know that, having to achieve a high level of productivity and growth, management needs to encourage creating a positive workplace environment. All of which involves, having a management team that is approachable and also allowing for your employees feel how much their work and effort towards the company’s
success is highly appreciated. positive workplace is the basic element that will get your company to the top. We understand that it may be time consuming and difficult to encourage employee motivation at the workplace.
