The Lagos State Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has pledged that its members will continue to deepen innovation, ethical practices for a sustainable future, just as it joined the global community in commemorating World Engineering Day.
Speaking in a goodwill message, the chairman, Lagos Branch of NSE, Engr. Olukorede Kesha emphasised the vital role engineers play in addressing the challenges of sustainable development. She said, this year’s theme, ‘Shaping our sustainable future through engineering’ resonates deeply with the challenges and opportunities of our time.
“The World Federation of Engineering Organisations chosen a theme that resonates deeply with the challenges and opportunities of our time. This theme is not merely a slogan, it is a call to action, a mandate for every engineer to embrace innovation, responsibility, and foresight in all our endeavors,” she said.
She urged engineers to embrace innovation, prioritise sustainability, foster collaboration, champion ethical practice, and invest in education and capacity building.
“In Lagos, a vibrant and rapidly growing megacity, the imperative for sustainable development is more critical than ever. We face unique challenges, from managing our increasing population viz-a-viz not enough infrastructure to mitigating the impacts of climate change and ensuring equitable access to resources. As engineers, we are at the forefront of addressing these challenges.
“The Lagos Branch of NSE is committed to playing a leading role in shaping a sustainable future for the city and the nation, Kesha assured.
The branch, she said, will continue to advocate for policies and initiatives that promote sustainable engineering practices and empower members to make a positive impact.
“As the world celebrates World Engineering Day, the Lagos Branch of NSE sees this as a catalyst for action, a moment to reaffirm commitment to building a better future for all”, she stated.
