The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, says the Federal Government remains committed to accelerating national development by leveraging digital technology and innovation.
Speaking in Asaba during the commissioning of a digital learning centre at Model Technical College, the First Lady — represented by the wife of the Delta State Governor, Mrs. Tobore Oborovwori — said technology-driven education is now the foundation for national progress.
“In today’s changing world, digital knowledge is no longer optional, but an essential and necessary tool for learning and advancing overall development,” she said. “Through the Renewed Hope Initiative in partnership with NITDA, we are working to give our people access to modern technology.”
Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Abdullahi, represented by Dr. Dimie Wariowei, said the centre demonstrates the government’s resolve to ensure Nigerians benefit from technology-driven education.
He disclosed that Asaba is one of 10 IT learning centres inaugurated nationwide, with the South-South region hosting two — in Asaba and Irrua, Edo State.
Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Mr. Smart Ufoh, commended the initiative, saying it will boost learning and foster innovation, creativity and digital literacy among students.
He noted that the centre “will serve as a hub for skills acquisition and empower learners to excel in today’s technology-driven world.”
The Principal of the College, Mrs. Violet Uwajare, expressed appreciation on behalf of the school, describing the facility as “a game-changer that will leave a lasting legacy in the school’s learning system.”
The event featured a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and a cultural performance by students showcasing Anioma heritage.
