FG Declares Public Holidays For Christmas, New Year Celebrations

In a festive announcement, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Monday and Tuesday, December 25 and 26, 2023, as well as Monday, January 1, 2024, as public holidays to commemorate the joyous occasions of Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The proclamation was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, during a statement on Friday, December 22, 2023. Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended heartfelt felicitations to Christians and all Nigerians, both within the country and in the Diaspora, on the forthcoming celebrations.

Encouraging a spirit of reflection, Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Christians to emulate the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, emphasizing values such as humility, service, compassion, and patience during the festive season. He highlighted the paramount importance of peace and security as prerequisites for economic development and prosperity.

Assuring the public, the minister conveyed the commitment of the federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to implement effective measures for the security of lives and property. Dr. Tunji-Ojo called upon all Nigerians to remain vigilant, advising them to report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security agencies.

With a focus on maintaining discipline, especially during the Yuletide season, the minister emphasized the collective responsibility of citizens in safeguarding lives and property in their respective communities and the nation as a whole.

He concluded by urging everyone to stay focused, anticipating a better year in 2024, aligning with the Renewed Hope agenda of the President.
