The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has postponed the commencement of distribution for 42,000 metric tons of grains approved by President Bola Tinubu, with the ceremony indefinitely deferred.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, had previously announced plans to initiate the distribution of the approved grains by the week ending on Saturday, March 9. Additionally, Kyari outlined intentions to release 58,500 metric tons of milled rice into the market to stabilize prices.
While expressing compassion for Nigerians affected by prevailing hardships, the minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of all citizens.
In a separate development, Nigeria excelled at the All African Games on Sunday, securing seven gold medals across various weight categories in wrestling. Notable victories included Ogunsanya’s triumph over her Ivorian opponent and Odunayo Folashade Adekuoroye’s swift victory against her Moroccan counterpart.
Meanwhile, electricity distribution companies have raised concerns over outstanding debts owed by the Nigerian government, amounting to approximately N100 billion.
This includes significant arrears, such as the N342.3 million electricity bill owed by the presidential villa. Distributors emphasize the importance of timely payment to ensure a conducive business environment and sustainable energy supply.
The call for effective resolution underscores the need for government agencies, ministries, and departments to fulfill their financial obligations and collaborate with energy distributors to address outstanding debts.
