The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially commenced the allocation of affordable houses as part of the National Housing Programme (NHP). Martin Gyado, the Federal Controller of Housing for Adamawa, confirmed the development during an interview, revealing that President Bola Tinubu has enhanced the NHP, introducing Renewed Hope Cities and Estates to make housing more accessible to common Nigerians.
Gyado explained that the Ministry of Housing has requested all state governments to provide 50 hectares of land for the creation of these Renewed Hope Cities and Estates. The correspondence for Adamawa has already reached Governor Umaru Fintiri, awaiting his approval.
The controller emphasized that the allocation of houses built under the previous administration has significantly reduced the housing deficit in the country.
Gyado assured that due process would be followed, and application forms are available at the offices of all controllers across the country at no cost.
In Adamawa, the housing projects consist of three phases, with two phases of 190 units already completed and fully serviced with infrastructural amenities like roads, electricity, and water.
Despite a high number of subscribers surpassing the available houses, Gyado reassured that eligible applicants have a chance of securing these affordable homes.
This initiative aligns with the federal government’s commitment to addressing housing needs, particularly for low- and medium-income earners.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, previously outlined plans to develop cost-effective housing designs, catering to 80 per cent of individuals in the low- and medium-income brackets. The goal is to provide quality and affordable housing options for a significant portion of the Nigerian population.
