The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has said that President Tinubu’s is committed to supporting private sector investments in gas production crucial for national development.
During a meeting with officials from the Brass Petrochemical and Gas Project in Bayelsa State, Ekpo highlighted the project’s significance for the nation’s economy and emphasized President Tinubu’s vision to promote gas-centric investments, commercialization, and industrialization.
Ekpo urged the collaboration between Gas Producer, SPDC JV, and the Brass Petrochemical and Gas Project promoters to ensure seamless gas supply.
Chief Ben Okoye, the project’s Managing Director, provided updates, stating that the gas and methanol components of the project have been separated into distinct operational entities. Okoye assured that operations would commence by March, with full project completion expected by Q1 2027.
The gas pipelines have been designed for expansion from Train 1 to Train 3 and beyond, contingent upon gas availability. Although the initial capacity for the Gas Plant is 340 million standard cubic feet (mmscfd), Okoye noted that the pipeline is designed to accommodate up to 980 mmscf.
In a separate meeting with ExxonMobil management, Minister Ekperikpe Ekpo emphasized the importance of ensuring uninterrupted gas supply to NLNG. ExxonMobil Nigeria’s Managing Director, Mr. Shane Harris, pledged ongoing collaboration to guarantee the seamless supply of gas to the nation.
