First Bank of Nigeria Limited has launched another fully automated branch, the FirstBank Digital Experience Centre (DXC), in Wuse, Zone 2, Abuja.
Chief executive officer of FirstBank, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, CEO, on Tuesday, in Abuja, led other management staff members and some employees of the bank to launch the new branch.
In his speech at the event, Dr. Adeduntan said, “On behalf of the board, management, and staff of FirstBank, I welcome you all to the official commissioning of the Abuja Wuse Digital Experience Centre. This is a very momentous occasion for us as a Bank, and I thank you for making history with us!”
Quoting Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, Dr. Adeduntan emphasized the importance of reinvention in today’s volatile era. “In today’s era of volatility, there is no way but to reinvent. The only sustainable advantage you can have over others is agility, that’s it. Because nothing else is sustainable; everything else you create, somebody else will replicate.”
He went on to speak about FirstBank’s journey, highlighting the bank’s pioneering spirit and unwavering commitment to innovation. According to him, with almost 130 years of existence, FirstBank had weathered numerous challenges in the ever-evolving banking landscape.
He said, “FirstBank had invested in modern technology infrastructure, pioneering digitization and providing over 42 million customers with a convenient, seamless, safe, and secure banking experience.’’
However, the highlight of the day was the FirstBank Digital Experience Centre (DXC). Dr. Adeduntan described it as a fully automated interactive digital branch, the first of its kind in the Nigerian banking industry. It was digitized in every sense, with no tellers or human staff, but equipped with digital screens, self-service terminals, card-issuance kiosks, ATMs, humanoid robots, video banking, and Artificial Intelligence. It is a one-stop digital banking platform that redefined customers’ banking experience.
The CEO extended his congratulations to the Abuja Wuse community for hosting the groundbreaking branch. “I am enthused at the prospects it brings to our esteemed customers – both existing and prospective.”
He promised that FirstBank would continue to lead the way in customer-led innovation and next-generation digital capabilities. ‘‘Our goal is to perpetually redefine the customer journey experience, improve efficiencies, and create remarkable interactions with their customers,’’ he said.
Over the years, FirstBank had introduced several customer-led digital platforms and innovative products and services. The CEO proudly mentioned FirstMobile App, Lit App, FirstOnline – internet banking, FirstMonie, USSD (*894#), and Chat Banking, among others. He said these digital channels had led to an impressive milestone, with over 22 million online subscribers, making FirstBank one of the fastest-growing bank-led digital penetrations in Nigeria.
