The Country Director of Equal Access International (EAI), Mr. Gad Peter has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to expedite action in sustaining the fight against corruption and should begin from the bottom to the top.
He maintained that the fight against corruption had to start from the grassroots to the top instead of from top to bottom and the President has to show some level of seriousness and commitment towards eliminating the cankerworm from the fabrics of the nation.
He said that if Nigeria is to succeed in the fight against corruption, the dreaded monsters have to be stamped out from the taproot to the stem and up to the branches and that could be termed real fight against the endemic disease.
Speaking at the  2nd stakeholders’ Workshop with the theme “Strengthening Media Support for Community Accountability Measures” (SMS- CAM) held in Kano, the Country Director said three issues have to be addressed among which include addressing the problem of value and behavioral changes in the Society as well as in-depth understanding of societal needs.
Mr. Peter stated further that the government has to look inwards and adopt the traditional methods of addressing corruption by encouraging Town Hall Meetings, a campaign against vote-buying, bribe-taking among others.
He said fighting corruption has to be all-encompassing. It has to come through every source be it conventional or social media and the main target is for people to get the message straight and work against the virus in all ramifications”
According to him ” Even today there good people of high moral integrity who stood by the side of truth and guard their names against all forms of routineness by refusing to dabble their fingers in the murky water (s) of corruption and other social vices who need to be fish out and awarded for meritorious service”
