The House of Representatives has promised to reward excellence among students of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Akpabuyo in Cross River State.
Chairman, House Committee on Navy, Yusuf Gagdi gave the piece of good news to the students of the school on behalf of Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila in Calabar.
The rewards would be a one-year tuition fee for those who perform excellently from Junior Secondary One to Senior Secondary Three.
Gagdi made the announcement in Akpabuyo, Cross River, when he led 10 members of the committee alongside the Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral David Adeniran, and other top naval officers on inspection of facilities at the school.
Gagdi, who was received by the management and staff of the school, told the excited students gathered on the assembly ground that the speaker would defray one-year tuition fees for the best overall in junior and senior levels.
According to him, the gesture was the Speaker’s way of motivating students to excel in their academic pursuit through hard work.
“You better learn well, so that your principal will recommend the best overall students in JSS One to SS Three; the speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, will pay your school fees for one year. It is better you go back to the classroom and endeavor to be the best. We wish you well on behalf of the speaker,” Gagdi reiterated.
On the construction of a boys hostel to replace the previous one gutted by fire a few months ago and the newly established e-library, the Committee Chairman told the students, “we are happy to be here. We came here to greet you as leaders of tomorrow. Among you here there is no doubt in my mind, are future legislators, governors and even the president”.
The lawmaker further noted, “We have equally seen your e-library. I was not privileged to use a computer while I was in a secondary school as you. But today, you are privileged to have an e-library where you can access every information and books you need for your academic pursuit”.
