Rep. Abdullahi Aliyu-Ahmed ( APC-Katsina) has donated N35 million as grants to 70 members of his constituency to enable them establish their own businesses.
The member represents Musawa and Matazu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives.
Aliyu-Ahmed said during the event that the money was given to the constituents with viable business plans to enable them have sustainable means of livelihoods.
He said, “The initiative is geared towards offering financial support to individuals at this time of economic downturn.
”This will enable the beneficiaries to invest and create jobs for themselves and other people.”
Aliyu-Ahmed added that each of the 70 beneficiaries would receive N500,000 as a non-refundable business grant to make them self-reliant and financially independent.
The lawmaker, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Interior, also distributed 100 wheelchairs to persons living with disabilities and 2,500 bags of fertilizer to farmers in the constituency.
According to him, the gesture further underscores his commitment to supporting his constituents to boost inclusive socio-economic growth and development.
He said that most of the beneficiaries already have good business plans for small-scale enterprises as well as engage in farming activities that were required to be supported.
Aliyu-Ahmed said that the wheelchairs were meant to ease the suffering of persons living with disabilities in the constituency.
He said, “Our people have given us the mandate and this is the time to bring meaningful development and provide service to the people through quality representation and sustainable dividends of democracy.”
The lawmaker pledged to remain committed to sustaining multi-sectoral interventions in agriculture, education and health, among others, for the betterment of the constituency.
He, however, added that he would continue to propose bills, motions and deploy other legislative instruments to positively impact his constituents and the state at large.
The state’s acting governor, Faruk Lawal, applauded the legislator for delivering on his mandate and urged other lawmakers in the state to emulate him.
He described Aliyu-Ahmed as an accomplished lawmaker and an astute politician, whose impact in his constituency and the state was well felt.
“All these initiatives by the federal lawmaker are in line with the developmental agenda of Gov. Dikko Radda’s administration in Katsina State,” he said.
