The National Employment Agency (ADEM – Agence pour le développement de l’emploi) in Luxembourg has announced the availability of approximately 7,000 job opportunities spanning 10 industries for both local and foreign talent since the end of January.
These job openings primarily address sectors experiencing a shortage of applicants from the local or cross-border workforce. More than 90 per cent of these vacancies offer permanent positions, with only a minority, around 5 per cent, intended for temporary roles.
Luxembourg’s Labor Market Dynamics
Luxembourg is currently undergoing a period of significant labor market growth, transitioning from a two-year phase marked by a substantial number of job vacancies where workers held an advantageous position.
Despite the high cost of living, Luxembourg’s labor market is thriving, boasting over 271,000 resident employees and more than 229,000 cross-border workers as of January 2024.
To adapt to this evolving landscape, Luxembourg is taking steps to enhance the quality of life for its workforce, including recent tax reductions for residents and cross-border workers aimed at addressing income-related challenges.
Luxembourg, a small European nation, stands out on several fronts. With the highest minimum wage and lowest unemployment rate in Europe over the past four decades, it also boasts a diverse population, with immigrants constituting nearly half of its total population.
For individuals from Third World Countries seeking work in Luxembourg, the country offers sponsorship for work visas under specific conditions, including the requirement for highly qualified positions and competitive salaries.
Top Industries in Need of Employees
ADEM has identified the top ten industries currently seeking employees in Luxembourg, which include information and telecommunications systems, accounting and management, secretarial and assistant services, food production, post-construction, banking, warehousing, load handling, and removals, service industry (hotel catering, tourism, leisure), pre-design & design (construction), and industrial cleaning.
All available positions are registered with ADEM, providing a centralized platform for job seekers to explore employment opportunities in Luxembourg.
