The principal of Junior Secondary School (JSS),Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, Olukemi Ojo, has called for gender equality amongst students to war against gender- based violence.
Disclosing this at the International Day of Mathematics Celebration, held at JSS Wuse Zone 3, organised by Real Life Mathematics, she noted that children, male and female, should be treated equally by parents, guardians and teachers.
According to her, awareness had been ongoing over the years, in the television, everywhere, even in schools, adding awareness should continue, so as to make the society a better place.
She stated that the male gender shouldn’t be allowed to bully just because ‘there is energy and more power’ as it helps to boost confidence in students.
Speaking on the theme: ‘Math Against Gender Based Violence,’ she said, “The topic came to me ‘math against gender violence’, I was looking at how it’s going to be but the topic, the way it is narrated today by the speaker. mathematics is important, where you live, everybody counts in the society.
“At least, when you are counting, mathematics is surfacing. The students as well are counting the male and the female and treating them equally well. Talking about equality, knowing that something is equal involve mathematics.”
She commended the convener of Real Life Mathematics, Mr. Joshua Ebeazor, one of the teachers of the school as well as the Parents Teachers Association ( PTA) teacher, for being so committed to the teaching of mathematics,
Speaking at the event, the founder and convener of Real Life Mathematics, Mr Joshua Ibeazor, revealed that the organisation’s mission is to harness the transformative power of math to eradicate the pervasive issue of gender-based violence.
