Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has signed the state’s N1.62 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, pledging accelerated implementation to deepen economic transformation across sectors.
The governor, who assented to the budget at the Government House in Enugu, said implementation would commence immediately. The budget, tagged “Budget of Renewed Momentum,” is anchored on inclusivity, transparency, accountability and institutional efficiency.
Mbah said the administration was confident of achieving its ambitious revenue targets, projecting Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of over N800 billion in 2026. He noted that the state’s IGR had risen from below N30 billion in 2023 to over N180 billion in 2024, and N400 billion in 2025.
According to him, the projected revenue growth would significantly reduce Enugu’s reliance on federal allocations, with FAAC expected to account for less than 30 per cent of total revenue if targets are met.
He stressed that meeting the revenue projections would require sustained discipline and productivity, urging government appointees to remain fully committed to revenue mobilisation and project execution.
In his remarks, Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Uchenna Ugwu, said early legislative involvement ensured seamless passage of the budget. He said the 2026 fiscal plan would drive major investments in infrastructure, transportation, education and agriculture.
