MTN Nigeria has been recognised for its environmental transparency and sustainability efforts, earning a “B-” in Climate Change and a “C” in Water Security from the global Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
These scores highlight MTN’s ongoing commitment to managing environmental risks and improving its non-financial disclosures. The ratings reflect the telco’s strides in sustainability reporting, accountability, and environmental performance.
The chief corporate services and sustainability officer at MTN Nigeria, Tobe Okigbo, emphasised the company’s dedication to embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into its core operations.
“Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our actions—from reducing energy consumption and improving efficiency to increasing renewable energy adoption. Through our Project Zero initiative, we are making steady progress in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and working towards net-zero emissions by 2040. Our “B-” score in climate change, which places us in the ‘Management’ band, validates our progress,” Okigbo stated.
The CDP, a global non-profit organisation, operates the world’s most comprehensive environmental disclosure system. In 2024, more than 24,800 companies across 90+ countries disclosed their environmental impact through CDP’s rigorous framework, enabling better decision-making and promoting sustainable growth.
MTN Nigeria remains committed to driving sustainability initiatives that create long-term value for stakeholders through responsible environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.
