The Nigeria Employers Consultative Association of Nigeria (NECA) has criticized a proposed bill suggesting jail terms for employers failing to pay salaries within six months.

NECA Director General Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde said the bill was legislative recklessness, emphasizing that labour-related bills should be institutionally driven.

“It can be likened to Legislative recklessness,” stated Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde. “Rather than embark on a fruitless activity that will yield no positive results, we will urge the promoters of the Bill to focus more on legislations that will improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria and guarantee enterprise sustainability.”
