The chairman, NEM Insurance Plc, Mr. Tope Smart, has charged insurance practitioners to be physically and mentally fit through regular exercise and fitness walk to perform optimally in their civic responsibilities.

Smart, while speaking to journalists shortly after the recent NEM Fitness Walk in Obanikoro, Lagos, at the weekend noted that, regular exercise of the body enhance good health and mental alertness that are very crucial to succeed in corporate life.

The fitness walk had started at NEM House in Obanikoro, terminated at Maryland and back to NEM office on Ikorodu road, in which its numerous staff partook in the early morning walk.

Speaking further, he said, the company initiated the fitness walk as a form of exercise as well as to enhance insurance awareness among Nigerians.

Stating that while the exercise is good for the body, it is also an avenue to promote NEM brand as passersby were inquisitive of what NEM brands stands for and its products of which answers were provided to them by the top staff of the underwriter who partook in the Fitness Walk.

According to him, “ The walk avail us opportunity to create awareness about insurance. During the exercise, people kept asking who we are and what we do and in the process of answering them, we are educating them and deepening insurance penetration.”

On why the company decided to brand Obanikoro BRT Terminal on Ikorodu Road, Lagos, the chairman said the initiative has won the company new clients who walked into the premise of NEM Insurance to make enquiries and bought its insurance products willingly.

Stressing that the company will not relent in raising insurance awareness across the country, he noted that the management has mandated all the company’s branches nationwide to organise similar Walk in their domain, a situation that will deepen insurance awareness and penetration.

While urging Nigerians to insure their risk exposures, he advised people to approach his underwriting firm for their general insurance products and services.

He disclosed that the underwriting company paid about N15 billion claims last year as it redeemed its pledge for policyholders who suffered insured risks in the last financial year, promising NEM Insurance Plc will continue to honour genuine claims when they arise.
