The national president of Agriculture and Allied Employees Union of Nigeria (AAEUN), Comrade Simon Achaver, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari, to channel his efforts in growing and developing the agriculture sector of the nation’s economy.
Comrade Achaver, who is also the chairman, National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) expressed his displeasure over the way farmers that were supposed to be direct beneficiaries of farm implements from federal government were being denied such.
Achaver, who is equally the national auditor of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), said, “Apart from coronavirus pandemic that swept and is still sweeping many businesses away and rendering many jobless, the EndSARS protests further escalated a situation that was almost getting out of hand. PMB regime should think on reshuffling cabinet now. How can a government who pledged to fight corruption be having corrupt hands within its circle? PMB should reshuffle the cabinet in order to inject fresh ideals into governance and remove those politicians that are sabotaging his efforts.”
Speaking on how businesses can be brought back after COVID-19, he said, “I think for lasting solution, we must strive to remove the obstacles that might work against revival of businesses. EndSARS protests shook the country whereby many hidden secret of how corrupt political office holders were subjecting fellow human beings to hunger and pains, discovery of hiding palliatives in various warehouses, and so on. This was one of the good intentions of PMB administration to reduce the effect of the pandemic but some corrupt people hid them for whatever reason.”
Lamenting on the state of agriculture in the country, he said, the news of growing agriculture was only on pages of newspapers and televisions, while the reality is that the real farmers were not being reached with any fertiliser or other farming implements.
