APT Securities and Funds Ltd., on Thursday trained investing public on the techniques of equities and stock trading of listed companies on the capital market.
The training highlighted how to identify which stocks to buy and risks associated with the stock market.
It demonstrated how to invest on the stock market and make sustainable profit and income with minimum amount of risk.
Mr Raphael Olaoye, Head Technology and Operations, APT Securities said at the webinar on Investments Trading hosted by the firm in Lagos that investment is important in attaining financial independence.
Olaoye, while responding to questions he said that investing in the capital market was the best way to increase capital.
He said, “What the firm does is to assist investors buy and sell their portfolio from listed and unlisted companies.
“Investment is key when it comes to income and financial independence. When you have money, you will need to set aside some for the rainy day.
“When it comes to investment, some people go to MMM and other ponzi schemes but we want the public to know that equities is the best platform to have good returns on investment.
“To buy or sell stocks, you must open an account to save your money. Money you keep at home will not increase in value but will reduce the purchasing power, and with the price of goods and services, coupled with inflation, keeping money is not a good idea.
“So, you need to invest that money in stocks to be able to cover inflation and you will be entitled to a lot of benefits because you will be buying into a company, for instance, you are buying into Cadbury or Firstbank,” he said.
Olaoye said that there was a difference in working for money and making your money work for an investor because after investment, the investors wait for returns through dividend.
He advised the investing public to register with stockbrokers as well as securities houses for proper investment processes, as it was impossible to go directly to the exchange to buy or sell stocks.
Olaoye said that it was now easy for anyone to invest in equities and stocks from any part of the world through the made-easy channels.
NAN reports that the training built attendees’ capacity in various segments of trading in the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Ltd.
