The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has unveiled the Production Monitoring Command Centre (PMCC), a new initiative designed to transform hydrocarbon operations. The PMCC, driven by NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), builds on the success of the Command and Control Centre and is focused on improving monitoring, operational efficiency, and production within the oil and gas sector. This move is aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s policy to enhance industry efficiency and boost production.
According to NNPC, the PMCC will serve as a unified platform for monitoring hydrocarbon molecules from production through to export terminals, covering Joint Ventures (JVs) and Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs). By consolidating real-time data from various operators, the system provides a comprehensive view of production activities, ensuring the early detection of anomalies, minimising unplanned disruptions, and supporting continuous operational flow.
The PMCC leverages advanced analytics and integrated data, providing stakeholders with actionable insights that facilitate proactive decision-making. This capability is expected to enhance planning, resource allocation, and risk management, empowering operators to meet production targets more efficiently while maintaining high operational standards.
A key feature of the PMCC is its emphasis on predictive and preventive maintenance. By monitoring equipment performance and coordinating maintenance activities, the system ensures the reliability and longevity of assets. Moreover, the PMCC fosters collaboration by offering a secure platform for data sharing and communication, promoting effective problem-solving and continuous improvement across the sector.
The PMCC is also critical in minimising downtime and optimising maintenance, which directly contributes to increased production and revenue. Under the leadership of Mele Kyari, NNPC Ltd has already increased its production to 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) and is targeting 2 million bpd. The PMCC is expected to play a crucial role in achieving this goal by driving operational efficiency and enhancing production capabilities.
Operating 24/7, the PMCC is staffed by trained professionals and utilises cloud-based solutions to ensure seamless data exchange with internal and external stakeholders. It also maintains direct communication with the Industry-Wide Security Command and Control Centre, enhancing the security of production operations.
