Noah’s Ark Communications Limited, has collaborated with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to promote awareness on proper waste disposal and recycling in commemoration of its 17th anniversary.
Speaking shortly after the 5km walkathon held in Lagos themed: “Recycling in a Plastic World: An Eco Walk,” the chief executive officer, Noah’s Ark Communications Limited, Lanre Adisa, noted that the partnership with the waste management agency was aimed at sensitising the neighbourhood and the people on the significance and benefits of recycling.
Adisa described the walk embarked upon by the team as a bold step to ensuring that everyone lives better as a community. While appreciating the support of LAWMA, LASTMA and Nigerian Police Force, he expressed the willingness of the company to partner further with LAWMA in driving the message of waste management and recycling further.
“There’s a whole lot that can happen. I believe we can change our world starting from here. Everybody believes that government should do everything for them but life doesn’t run that way. We are all government and have a role to play. If you decide to drop plastic or any other waste on the road, government cannot be blamed. If there’s any blame, it should come to you because the day the flood comes and overtakes your house, you will suffer the consequence. We hope that together we can make a difference,” he said.
In her remarks, regional manager, Recycling Waste, Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Ruqayah Kehinde, while outlining the agency’s various waste management programmes and initiatives, noted that the agency remains committed to driving advocacy on proper waste disposal as well as recycling of waste.
Kehinde further disclosed that the agency has launched youth-focused initiatives to instill environmental responsibility and a culture of recycling from an early age.
“We have the Summer School Programme where young people from age 7 to 16 are educated and schooled on waste management and proper waste handling. We go from one school to another to educate them on proper waste handling, disposal and recycling. We have the LAWMA Advocacy Team that goes around the state to sensitize people, educate them on proper waste disposal,” she said.
