To enhance Port-Hinterland connectivity and provide opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced plans to link Export Processing Terminals (EPTs) with Domestic Export Warehouses (DEWs). This initiative was revealed by NPA managing director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, during the 2024 Lagos International Trade Fair themed: “Connecting Businesses, Creating Value.”
According to Dr. Dantsoho, the integration of EPTs with DEWs will be carried out in partnership with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and other key stakeholders. This linkage aims to streamline export processes for Nigerian goods, enabling quicker turnaround times and reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks that previously hindered export competitiveness.
The NPA is also advancing its automation efforts with the Ports Community System (PCS) to lay the foundation for a National Single Window (NSW), which will connect stakeholders across the trade value chain for seamless interactions.
“As part of our commitment to strengthening the domestic economy, we established EPTs to simplify export processes for Nigerian goods,” Dr. Dantsoho explained. “These terminals, in collaboration with NEPC, are designed as one-stop centers for packing, certifying, and expediting export cargo, which supports SMEs in participating in the export value chain.”
He further highlighted that the theme of the 2024 trade fair aligns with the NPA’s mission, encouraging traders and investors to explore the numerous opportunities available at the Nigerian Ports Authority.
