Fresh concerns have emerged in Zamfara State following allegations by supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party that the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal Dare has received nearly ₦1tn in two years without delivering meaningful development.

The group, led by its secretary, Zahraddeen Ibrahim Gusau, described the situation as “unacceptable and deeply embarrassing,” insisting that residents have seen no improvement in their daily lives.

Gusau said the state had nothing to show for the unprecedented inflows, noting that only a few roads in Gusau were visible while “the rest of the state is left in darkness.”

According to him, the condition of health centres, schools and other essential services across local government areas remains deplorable, with no sign of new projects or a coherent development strategy.

He further accused the administration of allegedly prioritising a “small inner circle” over the people, claiming that individuals “who are not even from Zamfara” appear to wield influence over state resources.

Residents, he added, were disappointed that despite massive allocations, their communities had yet to feel the impact of good governance.

The group called on independent auditors, civil society organisations and national oversight bodies to probe the financial activities of the governor’s administration, saying transparency had become a necessity.

“Zamfara deserves leadership that serves the people, not leadership that hides behind excuses,” Gusau said, vowing that supporters would stand with citizens until accountability is achieved.
